Busy day on the farm yesterday
It was a very productive day on the farm yesterday, here's a little of what we got up to. First job was to bring the cattle home from Kevin's and close that off for meadow. Woolly led the way and followed me down the road ...They came across a gate and were tempted to go in there but Chris was behind in the hilux and quickly got them moving again...I got some heat patches for the cows as I was finding it impossible to tell when Kerry was in heat. She is so vocal all the time that its very hard to tell when she was in heat. She calved last November so its a bit of a disappointment not having her back in calf by now...As for Cara, she was in heat on Friday but I added a patch to her as well to see what to look out for. She is very easy to tell when she is in heat, tail is up and she tries to be vocal, mooing all the time which is out of character...Next up was tagging the little calf...Then we took all the sheep inside, paired up ewes and lambs so we could tag the lambs and correctly note who belonged to who. Then everyone got their feet trimmed and out onto a fresh field. Here they are after chilling in the afternoon sun...Chris got his little tractor back from being repaired, needed a new steering column and he was itching to get out cutting all the grass. It's a lot easier to cut the orchard when all the beehives are gone...
