Dinner tonight
A 100% home grown and reared dinner this evening!I cooked up a 1kg Dexter round roast. Goes in the oven at 220C for 30 minutes and then 170C for a further 30 minutes, then left to rest wrapped in tinfoil for another 30 minutes.To go with it was some first earlies 'Homeguard' that are still hanging around, they were par-boiled with some of the multicolored carrots from the tunnel and then roasted for 45 minutes. We also quartered and roasted one of the winter squashes. The gravy was the juices from the roast with a little water added, knob of butter, spoon of cornflour and reduced until think and creamy.
For desert I made a custard completely from scratch, I found a vanilla pod and that went with the milk, cream skimmed off some bottled milk, egg yolks and castor sugar. We cracked open a jar of rhubarb and finally one of the jars of the gooseberries preserved in Elderflower cordial. Amazing!
